Track how many tasks you defer each week

To track how many tasks you defer each week, follow this simple method:

1. Create a Weekly Task Log

Use a spreadsheet or task management app (e.g., Notion, Todoist, Excel, Trello) with columns like:

  • Task Name

  • Due Date

  • Completed Date

  • Deferred? (Yes/No)

  • Defer Reason

  • New Due Date

2. Log Tasks Daily

Each time you plan a task or receive one:

  • Enter it into your log.

  • If you defer it (postpone it to another day or week), mark “Yes” in the “Deferred?” column and log the new due date.

3. Weekly Review

At the end of each week:

  • Filter or count tasks marked as “Deferred?”

  • Record the total number of deferred tasks for the week.

4. Optional: Add Insight

Track patterns such as:

  • Types of tasks often deferred

  • Reasons for deferral (e.g., too big, not urgent, lacked resources)

  • People involved (if deferrals depend on others)

Example Summary Table (per week)

WeekTotal TasksDeferred Tasks% Deferred
May 6–1223521.7%
May 13–1930723.3%

You can automate this with conditional formatting and pivot tables in Excel or use custom views in Notion/Todoist.

Would you like a pre-built template or code to automate this in a tool?
