How to Make a DIY Flower-Pressed Jewelry Holder

Creating a DIY flower-pressed jewelry holder is a fun and creative project that allows you to incorporate natural beauty into a functional piece. By combining dried flowers with wood or another sturdy material, you can make a unique and personalized holder for your jewelry. Here’s how you can make your own flower-pressed jewelry holder:

Materials Needed:

  • Wooden base (wooden board, picture frame, or any other flat surface)

  • Pressed flowers (real flowers you’ve pressed or purchased)

  • Clear epoxy resin or mod podge

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

  • Hooks or small pegs for hanging jewelry

  • A small brush for applying glue or resin

  • Scissors

  • Optional: Small nails or screws for securing hooks

  • Protective gloves and mask (if using resin)

Step 1: Gather and Press the Flowers

Start by collecting the flowers you’d like to use in your jewelry holder. Flowers like daisies, lavender, roses, and wildflowers work great. Pressing flowers ensures they stay flat and intact when added to your jewelry holder.

  • To press flowers, place them between two pieces of parchment paper or wax paper. Then, place the paper between the pages of a heavy book and leave them to press for about 1-2 weeks. If you’re short on time, you can use a flower press, which is available at craft stores.

Step 2: Prepare the Base

Once your flowers are pressed and dried, choose your wooden base. You can use a wooden picture frame, a flat wooden board, or even a piece of reclaimed wood, depending on the look you want.

  • If you’re using a picture frame, remove the glass and backboard. You’ll want to work with the frame itself as the holder.

  • Sand the edges of the wood if necessary, to smooth them out and give the base a more polished look.

  • Paint or stain the wood if you want a specific color. This step is optional but can add a more finished look to your jewelry holder.

Step 3: Arrange the Flowers

Before gluing, arrange your pressed flowers on the wooden base. Play around with different placements until you’re satisfied with the design. You can go for a symmetrical arrangement, a scattered look, or a border around the edges. Once you have the design you like, take a photo so you can easily replicate the layout while gluing.

Step 4: Attach the Flowers

To adhere the pressed flowers, you have a couple of options:

  • Mod Podge or Glue: Using a small paintbrush, apply a thin layer of mod podge or craft glue to the back of each pressed flower. Carefully place each flower onto the wood. Press gently to ensure they stick. Once all flowers are glued down, apply a layer of Mod Podge over the flowers to seal them in place and add a glossy finish. Allow this layer to dry.

  • Epoxy Resin: For a more durable, glass-like finish, you can use clear epoxy resin. Mix the resin according to the manufacturer’s instructions and pour it over the flowers. The resin will encase the flowers, making them appear as though they are embedded in glass. This option provides a long-lasting and waterproof surface. If you choose resin, make sure to wear gloves and a mask to protect yourself from the fumes.

Step 5: Add Hooks or Pegs for Jewelry

Once the flowers are secured and the base is dried or set, it’s time to add hooks or pegs for hanging your jewelry.

  • Hooks: Use small metal hooks or decorative hooks to hold necklaces, bracelets, or earrings. If your base is thick enough, you can simply screw in the hooks directly.

  • Pegs: Alternatively, you can use small wooden pegs for a more rustic or vintage look. Attach the pegs to the bottom edge or sides of the base using hot glue or nails.

Space the hooks or pegs evenly to ensure there’s enough room for your jewelry. For added flair, consider using a mix of small and large hooks for different types of jewelry.

Step 6: Secure the Hooks

If you’re using screws or nails for the hooks, use a drill to create small pilot holes. Then, screw in the hooks or pegs securely. Ensure they are tightly fastened so they can support the weight of your jewelry. If you’re using hot glue, apply a generous amount and press the hooks in place, allowing the glue to dry completely.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Once everything is in place and dry, give your flower-pressed jewelry holder a final inspection. If needed, touch up any areas with paint or additional resin.

You can also add a hanging mechanism to the back if you plan to hang the holder on a wall. A picture-hanging kit or sawtooth hanger can be used to mount the jewelry holder.

Step 8: Display Your Jewelry

Now that your flower-pressed jewelry holder is complete, it’s time to start displaying your jewelry. Hang necklaces, bracelets, and earrings on the hooks or pegs, and enjoy the natural beauty of your pressed flowers.

Tips for Personalization:

  • Add a name, quote, or small design to the wooden base for a personal touch.

  • If you prefer a more rustic or vintage look, use reclaimed wood or aged materials to give the holder character.

  • Experiment with different types of flowers and foliage. Consider seasonal flowers to create a collection that changes throughout the year.

This DIY flower-pressed jewelry holder not only helps organize your jewelry but also acts as a beautiful display piece, bringing nature’s charm indoors.
