How to create a wooden tissue box cover with a minimalist design

Creating a wooden tissue box cover with a minimalist design is a great DIY project. Here’s how you can do it:

Materials & Tools Needed:

  • Wood (1/4″ or 1/2″ thick plywood, oak, walnut, or any wood of choice)
  • Saw (table saw, circular saw, or hand saw)
  • Wood glue
  • Clamps
  • Sandpaper (120-220 grit)
  • Measuring tape & pencil
  • Drill & hole saw (optional, for rounded edges)
  • Finish (wood stain, clear polyurethane, or oil)

Steps to Make It:

1. Measure & Cut the Wood

  • Measure the dimensions of your tissue box.
  • Cut five pieces:
    • Top: A rectangle with a center opening (cut a long oval or rectangle).
    • Front & Back: Two pieces matching the width and height of the tissue box.
    • Sides: Two pieces matching the depth and height.
    • Bottom (Optional): If you want a fully enclosed cover, cut a bottom piece.

2. Cut the Opening in the Top Piece

  • Mark the center where tissues will be pulled through.
  • Use a hole saw to start the cut or drill a hole and use a jigsaw to create a smooth opening.
  • Sand the edges for a clean look.

3. Assemble the Box

  • Dry fit the pieces first to ensure they align well.
  • Apply wood glue along the edges and carefully join them.
  • Clamp the pieces together and let the glue dry completely.
  • If desired, use small finishing nails for extra durability.

4. Sand & Smooth

  • Sand all edges and surfaces, starting with 120-grit and finishing with 220-grit for a smooth touch.

5. Apply Finish

  • Apply a minimalist finish like natural wood oil, matte polyurethane, or stain for a sleek modern look.
  • Let it dry completely before use.

Optional Design Enhancements

  • Chamfered edges for a softer look.
  • Rounded corners for a modern touch.
  • Magnetic or sliding bottom panel for easy refill access.

This simple, elegant wooden tissue box cover will complement any minimalist space. Would you like any variations or extra features in the design?
