Convert PDFs into editable Google Docs

To convert PDFs into editable Google Docs, follow these steps:

Method 1: Direct Upload to Google Drive

  1. Upload the PDF to Google Drive:

    • Open Google Drive.

    • Click the “+ New” button on the left sidebar.

    • Select “File upload” and upload the PDF file you want to convert.

  2. Open the PDF as a Google Doc:

    • Once uploaded, right-click the PDF file in Google Drive.

    • Select Open with > Google Docs.

  3. Edit in Google Docs:

    • Google Docs will convert the PDF into an editable format. However, the formatting may not always be perfect, especially if the PDF contains complex layouts or images.

Method 2: Using Google Docs Directly (For OCR Scanning)

If the PDF is scanned and contains only images (not selectable text), you can use Google Docs’ built-in Optical Character Recognition (OCR):

  1. Upload the PDF to Google Drive:

    • Same as above, upload the PDF to your Google Drive.

  2. Enable OCR:

    • Right-click on the uploaded PDF.

    • Select Open with > Google Docs.

    • Google Docs will perform OCR on the file and convert any text into an editable format.

  3. Edit and Save:

    • Once the PDF is opened in Google Docs, you can edit it as you would with any other document.

Tips:

  • The formatting may require some cleanup after the conversion, especially for complex PDFs.

  • Text-heavy PDFs convert much better than PDFs with lots of images or tables.
