Auto-archive Trello cards by date

To automatically archive Trello cards based on their due date, you can set up an automation with Butler (Trello’s built-in automation tool) or use third-party tools like Zapier. Here’s how you can do both:

Using Butler for Automation:

Butler is integrated within Trello and can automate tasks based on various triggers like dates, actions, or card movements.

Steps to set up Butler to archive Trello cards by due date:

  1. Open the Board:

    • Go to the Trello board where you want to set up the automation.

  2. Open the Butler Menu:

    • On the right-hand side, find the Automation button (Butler).

    • Click on it to open the automation menu.

  3. Create a New Command:

    • Click Create New Command to start setting up your automation.

  4. Set a Trigger:

    • Choose Card Due as the trigger.

    • For example, select “when a card is due” or “on the due date.”

  5. Define the Action:

    • Choose the action that you want to happen when a card is due. In this case, select Archive the card.

  6. Save the Automation:

    • After setting your trigger and action, save the automation rule. Butler will now automatically archive cards on their due date.

Example Butler Rule:

  • Trigger: When the due date arrives on a card

  • Action: Archive the card

This will ensure that once a card reaches its due date, it is automatically archived.

Using Zapier to Automate Card Archiving:

If you want more advanced options or need integration with other tools, Zapier is a good option.

  1. Create a Zap:

    • Sign up on Zapier and create a new Zap.

  2. Choose Trello as the App:

    • In the “Trigger” section, search for Trello and select the trigger “Card Due.”

  3. Set the Trigger:

    • Set the trigger to activate when a card’s due date arrives.

  4. Choose the Action:

    • For the action, choose Trello again and select Archive Card as the action event.

  5. Configure and Activate:

    • Connect your Trello account, set the board and list, and then activate the Zap.

Zapier will now automatically archive cards once they hit their due date.

Both options offer easy ways to keep your Trello boards neat and organized without manually archiving outdated tasks!
