If you need to cut out space for a sink or stove, use a jigsaw for the cutouts. You can also use a router to smooth out the edges if you prefer a rounded edge.

Step 7: Apply a Food-Safe Finish

A butcher block countertop must be treated with a food-safe finish to protect the wood from moisture, stains, and bacteria. Mineral oil, butcher block oil, or a similar food-safe product is ideal.
