How to make a wooden tablet stand for recipe reading

Making a wooden tablet stand for recipe reading is a simple and rewarding DIY project. Here’s how you can do it:

Materials Needed:

  • A wooden board (about 10″ x 7″, or adjust to fit your tablet)
  • A smaller wooden piece for the back support (around 6″ x 2″)
  • A wooden lip or ledge (about 1″ x 7″)
  • Wood glue
  • Screws (optional for extra support)
  • Sandpaper
  • Wood stain or paint (optional)
  • Drill and screws (if not using just glue)
  • Hinges (optional for a foldable stand)

Steps:

  1. Cut the Wood:

    • Cut a main wooden piece that will serve as the tablet backrest.
    • Cut a smaller wooden piece that will act as the support at the back.
    • Cut a thin strip of wood to create a ledge to hold the tablet at the bottom.
  2. Sand the Edges:

    • Use sandpaper to smooth all edges and surfaces to avoid splinters.
  3. Attach the Ledge:

    • Apply wood glue along the bottom edge of the main board and attach the small strip of wood to create a lip.
    • Clamp and let it dry for a few hours.
    • For extra strength, you can use small screws.
  4. Attach the Back Support:

    • If you want a fixed stand, glue or screw the back support at an angle (about 75 degrees works well).
    • If you want an adjustable stand, use hinges to allow movement.
  5. Finishing Touches:

    • Sand again for a smooth finish.
    • Apply a wood stain or paint to match your kitchen decor.
    • Let it dry completely before using.

Optional Features:

  • Cut out a hole for charging cables if you plan to charge your tablet while cooking.
  • Add a decorative touch by engraving or painting designs.
  • Use a clipboard clip at the top to hold printed recipes as well.
