Track writing speed by document

To track your writing speed by document, you can follow these steps:

1. Time Yourself While Writing

  • Use a stopwatch or a timer app to track how long it takes you to write each document. You can start the timer as soon as you begin writing and stop it once you’re done.

2. Track Word Count

  • Most writing tools (like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Scrivener) show the word count in real-time. Make sure to note the total word count when you finish the document.

3. Calculate Words Per Minute (WPM)

  • Divide the total number of words in the document by the time it took to write. For example, if you wrote 1,500 words in 60 minutes, your writing speed is 25 words per minute (1,500 ÷ 60 = 25).

4. Create a Spreadsheet

  • Track your writing speed over time by logging each document’s word count, time taken, and the WPM. This can help you analyze trends or improvements in your writing speed.

Example Spreadsheet Columns:

  • Document Name

  • Word Count

  • Time Taken (minutes)

  • WPM (Words Per Minute)

This method gives you concrete data that you can use to track how your speed changes depending on different factors like document type, complexity, or your focus level.
