Schedule spaced repetition reviews

Spaced repetition is a technique used to help improve long-term retention of information by reviewing material at increasing intervals. The process can be structured with specific intervals for when to review the material. Here’s a simple schedule for spaced repetition, based on how many times the information needs to be reviewed before it’s fully committed to memory:

Example Spaced Repetition Review Schedule:

  1. Initial Learning (Day 0)

    • Study and learn the material for the first time.

  2. First Review (Day 1)

    • Review the material the day after initial learning. This helps reinforce the learning and catch any gaps in understanding.

  3. Second Review (Day 3)

    • Review the material again two days later to reinforce retention and make it easier to recall.

  4. Third Review (Day 7)

    • Review a week later. This is where the material starts to settle into long-term memory, and you’ll be able to recall it more easily.

  5. Fourth Review (Day 14)

    • Two weeks after initial learning. This helps transition the information from short-term to long-term memory.

  6. Fifth Review (Day 30)

    • One month after initial learning. The information should be firmly in long-term memory, but periodic review ensures it stays there.

  7. Sixth Review (Day 60)

    • Two months after the initial learning. Spacing reviews further apart will help you maintain long-term retention.

  8. Subsequent Reviews (Every 3–6 Months)

    • Periodically review the material every few months to keep it fresh in your mind.

This schedule can be adjusted based on your own needs and the difficulty of the material. For complex topics, you might want to repeat the reviews at shorter intervals, while for easier material, the interval can be lengthened.

Using Spaced Repetition Software (SRS)

Tools like Anki or SuperMemo automate the spaced repetition process, adjusting review intervals based on how well you remember each piece of information.
